On this year’s NTUC May Day Celebrations,
Murata Electronics Singapore is honoured to be presented with the following
two May Day Awards for our contributions to the Labour Movement.
AWARD 1 - PLAQUE OF COMMENDATION
(STAR)
On Thursday 29 April 2010, our Managing
Director Mr. Masatoshi Koike attended the NTUC May Day Dinner, which was
held at Suntec City Convention Centre, to receive the Plaque of Commendation
(STAR) Award. The Award was the first ever to be given out under this new
category and is also the highest accolade given to a Company by the NTUC.
We were one of the two companies to receive this Award and the other being
the Public Utilities Board (PUB).
Over the years, our strong relationship
and contributions to the Labour Movement had already led to us to the Plaque
of Commendation (1992) and the Plaque of Commendation – Gold (1997). This
year’s Award is indeed a new milestone achieved for us.
This May Day Award was aptly given in
recognition of our contributions to the Labour Movement. Over the years,
we had been consistently supported the initiatives rolled out by the Labour
Movement such as embarking on the Skills Redevelopment Programme (SRP)
from 2001, adopting the Competitive-based Wage System etc.
At the Union level, we had also collaborated
with them on many occasions as well. From membership recruitment drives
to charity fund raising, Murata Electronics Singapore had always been an
active and supportive partner.
During the last downturn, we were also
the first unionized company to embark on the Skills Upgrading for Upgrading
(SPUR) and were among the “early adopters” who worked together with the
Union to share part of the Jobs Credit Scheme with our employees.
AWARD 2 - MODEL PARTNERSHIP AWARD
(INSTITUTIONAL)
On 29 May, we received our second Award
from the Labour Movement which is the Model Partnership Award (Institutional
Category).
Our Managing Director Mr. Masatoshi
Koike had received this Award in a ceremony held at Downtown East (Pasir
Ris). This will be the second year in a roll that we have received this
Award. The Award was presented to Murata Electronics Singapore in recognition
of our efforts to be Cheaper, Better and Faster (CBF) in the past year.
The CBF Drive was initiated by the Labour Movement and it looks into the
various areas that companies had made progress in such as improving productivity,
cost management, skills upgrading etc.
